Odyssey Theatre presents
music fest in March
Music at the Odyssey — The Odyssey Theatre will be jumpin’ in March with a month-long music festival.
• Friday, March 3 at 8.p.m.:
Suitte Royal — John Robinson on flauto taillo, Jim Garafalo on viola da gamba and Dr. Ruta Bloomfield on harpsichord explore little-known Baroque gems of the 18th century.
• Saturday, March 4 at 8.p.m.:
Morgan O’Shaughnessey — A classically trained violist on the cutting edge of a new wave of American folk musicians, O’Shaughnessey incorporates a nyckelharpa (traditional Swedish string instrument) into his work. He has collaborated with legendary producer Sylvia Massy, writing for global pop artists including Rihanna, Johnny Depp and Soilwerk. Click here to view video.
• Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m.:
The Loverboys’ Instrument Zoo — Multi-instrumentalists Ryan Koons and Niccolo Seligmann play folk music from around the world, including Balkan, Celtic, Sephardic Jewish, Swedish and original tunes.
• Friday, March 10 at 8.p.m.:
The Packrats — Dynamic musical duo Jordan Bush on banjo and Armando Wood on bass perform folk songs, sea shanties and other great American music from the last century.
• Saturday, March 11 at 8.p.m.:
Perta — Led by vocalist Mathew Bazulka and backed by a rhythm section of seasoned performers, this Los Angeles-based pop/indie/rock band performs original songs that range thematically from the playful sexuality of ‘Two Day Love’ to the harrowing conflict between identity and ego.
• Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m.:
Kevin Carr — Kevin’s one-man musical theater of the imagination blends folklore, true-life adventure and the rare, soulful, fiery sounds of fiddle and pipes into a mesmerizing experience. Click here to view the promo trailer.
• March 17 – March 26 (Fridays & Saturdays at 8 p.m. / Sundays at 5 p.m.).:
Sammy Miller and The Congregation present Great Awakening — Brassy, stomp-your-feet-and-dance music with the raw, uplifting vibe of a New Orleans street parade. Band members, including Grammy nominated drummer Sammy Miller and two-time Grammy-nominated trumpeter Alphonso Horne, have performed/recorded with notable artists such as Wynton Marsalis, O.A.R, Iron and Wine, Joshua Redman, Lee Fields, Jason Moran at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Hollywood Bowl.
