IAMA Theatre Company announces
two-week ‘Actors Summer Intensive’
LOS ANGELES (January 26, 2023) — IAMA Theatre Company has announced an “Actors Summer Intensive” for early-to-mid-career actors that focuses on building artistic muscles, creative community, and the tangible skills necessary to work in theater, TV and film in L.A. The two-week course will take place from June 11 through June 25.
Featuring master classes and workshops led by IAMA ensemble members, including Katie Lowes (Scandal, Inventing Anna) and Adam Shapiro (She Said, Never Have I Ever), as well as industry experts, topics will include auditioning and acting across the three mediums; developing one’s own work; physical and mental wellness for artists; workshopping new material; building a network and community; learning the business of “the business”; and survival skills for thriving in L.A., including housing, health insurance and side gigs. The intensive will also feature conversations with notable members of the industry, authentic networking opportunities, and collaboration with IAMA ensemble members and the company’s Emerging Playwrights Lab.
Founded in 2007, IAMA is a Los Angeles-based ensemble of artists committed to the creation and cultivation of new voices and artists that challenge boundaries and take risks, while fostering an inclusive community that inspires theater-makers of future generations. Los Angeles is one of the most diverse metropolitan areas in the world and IAMA’s work reflects the new voices and changing attitudes that continue to shape this city, state, country and world. Designated by Playbill as “one of 20 regional houses every theater lover must know,” the award-winning company has seen many plays generated at IAMA travel to off-Broadway, including to Second Stage and Playwrights Horizons, then go on to be performed regionally and internationally. IAMA members have been featured in numerous critically acclaimed TV shows and films as well as in a vast array of theater and live performances on and off-Broadway and across the country. IAMA has been dedicated to developing new plays and musicals by emerging and established playwrights, culminating in over 25 world, West Coast and Los Angeles premieres.
The cost of the Actors Summer Intensive is $1,500. The early application deadline is February 24; the regular deadline is March 17. Space is limited. For more information, go to iamatheatre.com.
