Functional Body Movement – About Tommy Stewart

Tommy Stewart grew up in Flint, Michigan where he played in local bands Bad Axe, Kody Lee and Damage Inc. in the ‘80s. Best known for his role as drummer with the hard rock band Godsmack, he has also toured and recorded with a number of other bands including Halloween, Lillian Axe, Fuel, Everclear and Lo-Pro.

As a drummer with a vested personal interest in all aspects of movement and anatomy, Tommy became certified as a personal trainer through ISSA (International Sports Science Association) in 1998. Shortly after that, he moved back to Boston to re-join Godsmack, release their first record and begin touring in earnest. After years spent on the road, he began to seriously integrate more training into his time off, receiving his certification with NASM (National Association of Sports Medicine) in 2006, and, two years later, his Level 1 and 2 Power Plate credentials.

In 2012, after continued and concentrated study about human movement, Tommy formed Functional Body Movement.

Whether one’s goal is weight loss, core strength, cardio, greater flexibility, post-pregnancy toning or general well-being, Functional Body Movement provides each individual with a specific set of skills and the physical self-awareness they need, custom-tailoring each regimen and avoiding one-size-fits-all solutions. Stewart sees himself as a guide to overall wellness rather than as a traditional trainer, and his years as a professional drummer have given him rare insight into biomechanics and body movement, while his extensive knowledge of physical anatomy supports his intuitive, artistic talents.
