Australian superstar Missy Higgins to perform at gala
reception for world premiere comedy ‘Grey Nomad’
Tickets include chance to win ‘Grey Nomad’ experience in Western Australia
LOS ANGELES (Aug. 29, 2017) — Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins (North American top 20 airplay hits “Where I Stood” and “Steer”) will perform at a fundraising event for L.A.’s Australian Theatre Company at the Skylight Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Higgins will sing at a gala reception following the 6 p.m. final preview performance of ATC’s world premiere comedy Grey Nomad, which opens for the press the following evening. An uplifting comedy about the baby boomers of Australia who travel in endless loops around Australia in their RVs, Grey Nomad is penned by Higgins’ husband Dan Lee. As part of its fundraising efforts, ATC is raffling off a two-week trip to Australia, to be drawn on Nov. 5 at ATC’s fall gala, that will allow the winner and their guest to experience the Australian “grey nomad” lifestyle for themselves.
Valued at over $8,000, the “Grey Nomad” package is provided by Tourism Western Australia in partnership with Qantas Vacations; Crown Towers Perth; Cable Beach Resort and Spa, Broome; Britz Campervan Hire, Broome; Rottnest Express; Red Sun Camel Trek, Cable Beach, Broome; Brian Lee Tagalong Tours “The Ardi Indigenous Experience”; and King Leopold Air day tour to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm and Horizontal Waterfalls.
Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins has enjoyed phenomenal success with her irresistible melodies and “arrow through the heart” lyrics, delivered by a striking voice that clearly means it. Her highly acclaimed albums The Sound Of White (Album Of The Year featuring the hit singles “Scar” and “Ten Days”), On A Clear Night (featuring North American top 20 airplay hits “Where I Stood” and “Steer”) and The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle (#1 album featuring “Everyone’s Waiting” and “Hello Hello”) have sold over two million albums and singles globally. Higgins was first introduced to Los Angeles audiences when KCRW broke her song “All for Believing” in 2005, and “Where I Stood” has been featured on TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Smallville and The Ghost Whisperer. Missy has appeared on the cover of Australia’s Rolling Stone magazine twice and is a three-time chart topper and nine-time ARIA Award-winner (Australia’s Grammys). In 2016, Missy released the standalone single “Oh Canada,” inspired by the tragic images of an infant Syrian refugee named Alan Kurdi being carried from the water by a soldier, with 100% of net profits going to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre; a powerful animated video for “Oh Canada,” created in partnership with Caritas and World Vision, accumulated over 1 million views within a week of its release. Also last year, Missy performed a series of sold out shows in her first North American tour in four years. She most recently, released “Torchlight,” a powerful, emotive piano ballad written for the Australian film Don’t Tell starring Rachel Griffiths and Jack Thompson. According to Australian news site news.com.au, Higgins, inspired by climate change , literature, is currently delving into end of the world apocalyptic love stories for her upcoming album.
In Grey Nomad, two couples hit the road in their RV’s for an adventure along the West Australian coast and discover that there is much more out there waiting for them than they ever imagined possible. The production is directed by Iain Sinclair and stars Ros Gentle, Wendy Hammers, David Ross Paterson and Paul Tassone (Warning: brief nudity — mature audiences only).
Missy Higgins will perform at a gala reception following the final preview performance on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. Champagne, food, and a chance to win the “Grey Nomad” tour package are included in the $100 ticket price.
Grey Nomad opens on Monday, Sept. 11 and continues through Oct. 8.
