‘Julia Migenes Sings Kurt Weill’ extends through January 16 at the Odyssey
Julia Migenes Sings Kurt Weill — Extended through January 16: Paring things down to the bare essentials of voice and piano, celebrated mezzo-soprano Julia Migenes takes the audience on a musical journey to the heart of Kurt Weill’s music, from Berlin to Paris to New York. Accompanied by Mitsuko Morikawa on piano and directed by internationally renowned film director Peter Medak, Migenes performs in the language of each “stopover” — German, French and English — exploring the work of this brilliant composer and the powerful lyrics that complement his music.
“Lovers of the music of Kurt Weill, lovers of great singing and those seeking a theatrical thrill should not miss this very special engagement.” — Paul Myrvold’s Theatre Notes
“For anyone addicted to having their socks blown off – boy, oh boy, does this show have your name written in big bold letters all over it!… Migenes and Morikawa make up the most dynamic duo since Batman and Robin.” — Ernest Kearney, The Tvolution
“[Migenes] has mined the text for drama, character, and variety with such specificity that each song has the impact of a one-act play… Anyone who loves Weill or consummate singing actors should treat themselves to this production.” — Michael Van Duzer, Showmag.com
“Striking and moving… a Christmas treat for theater-goers.” — Elaine L. Mura, L.A. Splash
